Welcome to Bridport Bowling Club.
Lawn bowls in Bridport began in 1921 as a sub-section of the Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club, the Bowls section being to the South Dorset League in 1922 and affiliated to the Dorset County Bowling Association in 1926 The bowls section became independent in 1929 and moved to its present site in 1930 on land donated by the then, Club President, Mr W S Edwards. The ladies section of the club was established in 1965 and combined with the mens section to form a unified club in 1992. The original clubhouse was erected in 1930 and, with modifications, remained in use until 2005 when it was demolished and replaced with a larger more purpose built pavilion. The club is fortunate in that due to the enthusiasm of the founding members, it now occupies an attractive site close to the town centre between St. Mary’s church and the river Brit in a designated conservation area.
